If it is possible for the internal regulator to fail "closed" the output of the alternator will feed the field and it will go to capacity (like 20 or 30 or more volts and gawd knows how many amps until it fries the rectifier diodes (but by that time, all the avionics are smoking profusely). Need an over voltage circuit that opens the output cable .... Jim S.
