   I think I missed the point on that one, the photo is one off my water heater, as for the oil cooler no it is unmodified and has the thermostat in it but some oil still flows through the cooler all the time, the oil will stay at about 170 degrees until the outside temp reaches about 20 and then it starts going down from there, at 30 below zero outside temp the oil temp needle wont even move off the stop.

Ken,
Did you alter the oil cooler bypass? The stock oil
cooler has a bypass that prevents oil from circulating
through it when the oil temp is below 140F degrees.
This helps to warm the oil faster on cold days.
