I’ve heard the same rumor, Bill. If
I had known, I would have tried to talk him out of it – but, then again,
hard to talk sense to certain folks{:>).
I am about ready to roll out a new gadget
for the Lycoming crowd – a cockpit monitor/controller (Electronic
Ignition Commander) for the Emag/Pmag series of electronic ignitions. Not of
any interest to this crowd, but a hangar neighbor who knew I messed with such
stuff (electronic gadgets that is) talked me into it and indicated they there were
a number of users of such ignitions willing to pay for such a monitor. So what’s
an old retired fellow to do? Take their money, naturally {:>).
In the process, a side product got spun
off for those who have magnetos or don’t want the ignition monitor. It
is a unit that is a combination, Tachometer (with LARGE colored digits, and 3
alarm ranges you can set), a Hobbs meter and two temperature probes (OAT and
CAT) – the Tach can be set for any number of pulse per revolution up to
10 – so would work for just about anything putting out a Tach pulse out
between 5 and 30 volts. Still in the 2 ¼” instrument case as the EFISM.
Yes, it will work fine with the Rotary,
but don’t expect too many to be interested, mainly aimed the Lycoming
crowd.

I also understand that "Jason" offers a nice fuel
totalizer and readout for tuning the EC-2 :-)

Sharp eye, Bob.
I’m told that “Jason”
must have used an low density foam as the mold for the diffuser – which
later showed a propensity for crumbling under the conditions existing around
it. Lesson learned.
Yes, I thought a good series of articles
– something you would never see in Sport Aviation – Kitplane
has turned into a true representative of the experimenter – while
EAA has long lost its Experimenter soul. Kitplane and of course, Pat and
CONTACT. Although there may be some hope for the EAA, I understand that
Pat has taken over as editor of its “Experimenter” on-line mag
which can only be good.

It is an elegant installation. I didn't know that Jason
nickle plated the RD1? And I think I see a chip out of the left radiator
air intake diffuser.
Pat Panzera and Contact Magazine got a big shout out too.

Those of you who get Kitplane magazine will like this month
issue – all about alternative engines, Subaru, VW, Rotary, Corvette,
Corvair, you name it. A nice side bar from Tracy Crook on the rotary and
apparently Jason Hutchins has an rotary powered Rv-6A exactly like mine
including a “Plugs up” engine and the same paint job.
Clearly Jason has good taste {:>)
