No problem, Al. I think that kind of
power at altitude with lower air density is great. I agree, normally when
you think of a 3 rotor it/s in the 260 HP range at least, but as you point out
that is at sea level air density.
Regardless of the power output, nice to
see the performance over the RV-7.

BBQ Run / 20B numbers
Sorry, Ed. I was recalling that on
the dyno my 20B consistently put out 260-270 hp at 6000 and WOT; but that was
corrected to standard day at sea level, and the fuel flow meter wasn’t
working. Based on the fuel burn of 15 gph, your numbers seem correct.
What altitude were you flying, Mark?
So when I’m cruising at 200 mph,
and 10 gph; I’m doin’ it at 110-120 hp. Hum-m-m.

Doug, at 15 gph at 6000
rpm, Mark would be making approx 165 HP, perhaps a bit more, using a very
conservative BSFC of 0.55. If you assume a bit better BSFC of 0.49 it
would be around 183 HP.

Great story...thanks
for posting it! At 6,000 rpm and 15 gph, how many HP do you think
you're developing?
Also,
have you by chance flown side by side with another Lycoming powered ES for
comparison purposes? If so what did you learn?
We're
going to have a couple of "burger burns" at our airport ((2OK2)
just east of Tinker AFB) this Spring / Summer, so maybe you'll feel like going
on a short cross country up this way and show our little EAA chapter
what a three rotor looks and sounds like?!
