One of the reasons it took so long to get to this point was I wanted to go overkill on the cooling. As you pointed out, when I got started on this virtually everyone had cooling issues on the first flights. I built 4 different oil cooler installations (and I dont mean minor changes - 4 completely different setups) because I was afraid that what I had wouldnt work. At one point (probably been 5 years ago now) Chuck Dunlap visited my project. He told me I was over thinking things and I just needed to take what I had and fly it. I think that was oil cooler install #2.

Anyway, I'm hoping that I'll have the problem of too much cooling and I can start shrinking inlets. Time will tell.

And I did realize that I was OK with oil pan temp around 210 (OK, I realized it a little late). I backed off the throttle and then noticed the temp out of the cooler was around 185 so I knew I was OK. Heat of the moment I guess. In any case I decided for the remainder of the flight that not pushing it certainly wouldnt hurt anything.

Hopefully the next flight I wont feel quite so overloaded. Then can focus more attention on thinking things out.

Your right about that, Ernest.

I remember when I was having oil and coolant over-temp problems back in
1997-98 - few folks around to ask.  I think that says a lot about this list
and the folks on it who are so willing to share both their successes and
failures.

I agree the RV tractor installation (and probably just about any tractor
installation) have several configurations that appear to work first flight.
I think the canard types are getting their configurations sorted out as well
- theirs being the somewhat more challenging conditions.
