Did some more searching and it looks like this topic was well covered back in June.  I'll take a close look at the topic and see what there is to see.  Otherwise, happy to read any other thoughts on the topic.

Best regards,
Chris

Hi all,

Been lurking in this group for a while and thought it might be time for a question of my own.

I've read through Tracy's exhaust adventures on his web site, in his conversion guide, and in his Mazda Papers, and note that he's tried just about every imaginable combination that would fit in his aircraft.  It seems that the underbody mounted solution is the one that's seen the most use.  And it probably works best given the limited space inside the cowl of his aircraft.

But what if one is building an aircraft that has more space inside the engine compartment?  My friend and I will begin construction of a pair of Barrows Bearhawk aircraft in pretty short order, and rotary engines are likely in their future.  There's a fair amount of space inside the cowling of this aircraft after the engine goes in, the best that I can tell.  If space permits, is the tangential muffler the better option for this installation?  I've also considered seeing if I could use the Racing Beat header and snake some curved tubing around to meet some exhaust components inside the engine compartment as well, but don't know if this is an effective solution too many turns in the system for clean exhaust output.  I'm still doing much research in this regard.

Elden Yates just finished his rotary Bearhawk and is flying off hours, as I understand it, but I haven't seen many photos of his engine installation to see what fits and what doesn't.  Perhaps I'll be lucky enough to see it at Oshkosh one day.

Thanks and best regards,
Chris (digging through the archives for hints)
