Bob,

The EC2/3 does put out a 5V pulse for the coil/igniters but it is current limited with an internal resistor.  Depending on the coils used, the loaded pulse voltage could be as low as 3v.

Thanks for the offer, but for simplicity I would rather connect the
tach directly without any external circuitry.  I'm pretty sure the guy
with the Prius was using a 5 volt signal to drive his tach so I just
need to find out what adjustment I need to make to get the one shot in
the tach to fire with a 5 volt input.
