Ok, Al , now that you have that off your
chest, how many presentations can I mark you down for {:>)?
Yes, I can certainly understand that
the long haul from the West coast and then not being able to land your Velocity
at Shady bend (well, you could probably land, but take off might be more
problematic {:>) would detract from the enjoyment..
But, we’ve have tried rotary
flyins at other locations, Mississippi and Tennessee comes to mind as well as
one outside Dallas that I have flown to. But, none draw the crowd like
the one in Florida.
There were generally several rotary enthusiasts (generally same
ones that show up at Shady Bend) in attendance – but, most of the time, the
only rotary fliers there were Tracy and I. Could be the lack of accommodations
and amenities like “skinny dipping” in the Suwannee River that just are not available else where {:>).
Actually, as you know, it takes a
lot of work to pull of a successful one like Tracy and Laura does despite the fact it is
informal and loosely structured. Laura does a lot of prep work that make
it seems effortless – but, to the contrary she plans months ahead for the
event.
But, perhaps with more and more rotary
fliers becoming airborne in Texas
and the mid lands, another event perhaps in the spring might be worth trying in
the mid section of the country.

Round Up time!!!!!!!!!!!
Tracy, Ed, et.al.;
My first thought is “I’d
really like to be there”; which is immediately followed by “yeah,
but it’s way the h__l over in FL, and I can’t land at his airstrip
anyway”. Now, I realize that a rotary roundup anywhere but at Tracy and Laura’s
just wouldn’t be the same. But OTOH, perhaps if it were somewhere
more toward the center of mass of the rotary fliers, more of us could/would
participate (or then again, maybe you prefer to limit it to you Southeastern RV
flyers J). Oh, not this year, you understand; but something to think
about for the future.
Maybe there is someone in Kansas who has the ideal location; or maybe Missouri. Looking
at the Frapper map of rotarys, that may result in the lowest ‘radius of
gyration’ so to speak (you non-technical types can look it up on
Wikipedia). Of course, that is still a long way from San Diego, but a paved runway would be good.
Actually, I could probably host it in
Glen Ullin, ND (D57). I’m sure you would all like to fly up to the Dakotas.

Up time!!!!!!!!!!!
Ok, folks it’s that time of
the year again. No – not Hurricane season – well, Yes, it is
Hurricane season, but we are also coming up on that momentous,
one-time-a-year event, commonly known as the “Rotary Round
up” hosted (as usual) by that fantastic couple - Tracy and Laura Crook.
Please note that the event has been
moved up a week, hopefully to avoid those first of the seaon's winter
weather patterns that always seems to hit the last weekend in October and
hinders some of us (the more faint hearted) from attending.
MOST important, Laura needs to have
some of you folks give presentations for the enjoyment, enlightenment and
overall entertainment of the rest of us. Challenges? Problems”
(solutions!!! We like solutions!), different approach or just a progress report
– and it doesn’t even HAVE to be rotary related. Come
prepared to enjoy the company of others with common interest – or heck,
just to eat the food and enjoy the campfire stories. Lies, wild tales,
stories, fabrications, prevarications are all permitted, but the latter are
discouraged until at least 3 beers have been consumed by all listening {:>)
Here is the official notification
– get your RVSP into Laura while you are thinking about it.
The annual Rotary Roundup, hosted by Tracy and Laura
Crook, will be held on October 17/18/19, 2008 at Shady Bend Airpark
(9FL5) in Bell, FL. Here is the link for all the
details:
http://www.rotaryaviation.com/invitation.html
And.. I am looking for people to present 55 minute
forums on Saturday afternoon. Please email Laura at laura@rotaryaviation.com
if you are interested in doing a forum and with RSVPs for the event.
Nuff, said.
Hope to see you there – heck!
Hope to get there this year myself.
