Dennis,
Some very
interesting data. The MPG number
is about as good as a car, and a whole lot faster.
Any idea
what you total flying time was ?

Subject: [FlyRotary] Trip to
Oshkosh - 2008
Oshkosh Trip Notes -2008
<>I
flew my RX-8 Renesis powered RV - 7A to Oshkosh
on Sunday and left on Thursday. Great Trip!! Tracy Crook, Paul
Lamar and Dave Atkins also were there. Tracy and Dave flew their RV’s and
had them on display. We all parked together in the home built – alternate
engine display area adjacent to runway 36. We had lots of interest in the
rotary conversions and Tracy was
busy talking to visitors continuously. I had a great time visiting with Tracy
during the fly-in!!> <>
My brother and I flew in my RV so we were fully loaded with tents, clothes
etc. My max. take-off weight is 1850# and I had to remove 12 gallons of
fuel after we loaded our stuff!> <>
Sunday we flew from the Austin area
(40XS) to Fayetteville (FYV) than Monmouth, Il.>
(C66) and on to OSH. Total
distance was 1120 miles. I used Airnav.com to plan the route to use
Mogas. The first two legs were at 7500 ft. altitude. Coming home we
stopped at De Kalb (DKB) and spent some time with my relatives. <>
From De Kalb we flew to Fayetteville
and than to Austin at 8500
ft. The following is typical engine data from the EM-2.> <>
Altitude –
8500ft.
Oil Press. – 78 psi>
OAT – 76
F
Oil temp. – 199 F
MP – 21 in. hg
Oil pan temp – 127 F
RPM –
5700
Water temp – 178 F
TAS- 158
mph
GPH – 7.4
MPG – 21.3
<>Normally the cruise fuel economy was 21 to 23 MPG.
depending on how lean of peak I was running.> <>
Friday afternoon I departed Fayetteville Ark.
and at 500 ft altitude the OAT was reading 104 F! As my oil temp reached
215 F and my water reached 200 F, I reduced power to 24 in-hg and climbed at
135 mph. The oil temp came down to 212 and the water went to 191 F with
plenty of climb rate! My maximum oil temperature in the oil pan reached
245 F. during the climb to 8500.> <>
I flew 2130 miles, climbed to 7500 or 8500 feet five times and had two long
taxi times at Oshkosh while
using about 128 gallons of auto-fuel for the trip.>
