The thinner rotor housings were counter-intuitive at first (from a performance, fuel economy and emissions perspective) but the more I think about it the more sense it makes. The percentage of combustion chamber volume consumed by quench areas is minimized with this approach which I think is the key. Not to mention the lower weight. The public is going to accept lower weight cars with $4.00+ gasoline, even if it means giving up the stupid notion of needing massive cars to resist impacts with semi trucks.
