Ask your friend which processor and system they are using?
 
I've been "out of the loop" for a while, but a lot of system engineers went with MatLab modeling for engine control.  Autocode generation, which is a pretty neat tool.  I did
a lot with MPC555 (there are a ton of derivatives).  Just wondering if MPC555 (floating
point processor was a big plus with the model based systems).

The link below talks about what Honeywell/Garrett are working on. The key
part of the article is the electrical wastegate controller. My friend Brian
in LA says that this electrical controller is being used by all the racers,
and is the key to better controlling boost, and therefore heat, and
over-spooling. Hey Tracy, is there room in the ECU for another
circuit??.....(:-)
