I'm curious as Tracy pointed out that the most economical rpm for the rotary engine is 5200. When I dial my prop speed down to 1700 and lean the mixture, I see about 5100-5200 rpm and 11.2 - 11.5 gph, but this is only at about 3000 msl. I would expect lower fuel burn at higher altitudes, but that will have to wait for later. Also, I haven't calibrated my fuel burn either (not sure how to do that). Al,

What rpm do you normally see in cruise?  I'm curious as Tracy pointed out that the most economical rpm for the rotary engine is 5200.  When I dial my prop speed down to 1700 and lean the mixture, I see about 5100-5200 rpm and  11.2 - 11.5 gph, but this is only at about 3000 msl.  I would expect lower fuel burn at higher altitudes, but that will have to wait for later.  Also, I haven't calibrated my fuel burn either (not sure how to do that).

Al,

Do you have a c/s or an in-flight adjustable prop?  If so, what settings were you using at the time?

Mark S.

Fixed pitch Catto 3-blade: 66 x 80.

I've finally got the EM2 fuel burn pretty well calibrated, and took note of some readings today.

At 7500 ft I was cruisin' at 200 mph (TAS) at 20.7 mpg, 9.6 gph (average of two readings). MAP at about 17.2 . One reading at 8500, same speed, of 21.2 mpg.  This 20B is better on fuel than I expected; I like it!
