Ed,
I decided at this time I would use bearings on the
sides, the main reason is I didn't want to plug up the threaded mount holes. The
local Nickel people said that there was no way to plug up the holes as it had to
go into a high heat bath.
I had to be extremely accurate on the sides, there
was a small amount of play I wished to take-up and allowed for this. When
finally fitting the slide in, it was a bit tight, however a bit of rub with wet
and dry to take the high points of the milling cutter marks and it was
perfect.
I think I'm getting better at this sort of
thing.
I contacted 'Velocity of Sound' chap from Victoria - he's a Mechanic and has a side
line of supplying these Velocity stacks, mostly to the US. He's a great guy and
loves talking about different applications and is very helpful - his name
is Patrick O'Leary.
I've got to order one for my carby - price is
reasonable. He has them spun using a steel die, so any shape can be done. What a
great little side line, he's supplied about 5,000 to the US alone.
I was going to get one to slide over the inlet
flange, but decided to make a new inlet stub flange and slide it inside to
maintain the 44mm ID.
