I had the same question = for him regarding the wires. If you send a picture of your alternator, = I will compare it to my alternator. If it appears the same, I can point = out which is the idiot light, and which is the field. P.S. I was also = told that if I run the alternator without the idiot light circuit = connected, that I would probably trash the alternator. For what it's = worth. When = you say stock=20 alternator, do you mean from a 2nd gen RX-7, or ???  I'm sure we = can=20 cough up the actual schematic info if it's an RX-7 = alt.  FWIW,=20 you're probably right about what the wires do, and the idiot light = circuit=20 probably provides a ground to turn the light on.  =
