Happened to find this old photo of my first 13B on my
test stand with the first TWM intake. Comprised of a TWM throttle
body with two 2" dia throats with four (MSD 32 lbs/hour) injectors and a
racing beat Webber 2 into 4 manifold adapter. This was the set up
suggested by Rotary Racing enthusiasts. While I'm sure it did
wonders at 8000 + rpm, it unfortunately just did not produce much power at
5000-6000 rpm. giving me only 800-900 fpm roc and 186 MPH TAS at full
throttle.
Replacing it with my next (ugly) intake with four
smaller and longer runners and with the stock RX-7 tri-port Throttle body added
300 fpm rate of climb immediately and later refinements (Mustang TB, plastic
Plenum, etc) resulted in much increased power
giving me a 1500-1600 fpm ROC and 200 MPH TAS top speed.
So what may be the cat's meow for
the rotary racer just may not be the right cup of tea for your aircraft
application. YMMV.
