Hi Pat;
Even though I won't make it to Osh (don't even really want to,
would much rather expend the effort to make the Round-up), I applaud
your efforts to recognize the the true experimenters who will make it
there. By most accounts I've read Osh is more about commercial aviation
nowadays, with a few war birds throw in. *Most* of the experimental
awards will go to an RV? quick build that was finished by hired guns,
while some guy with an unlimited budget gets the kudos for it. Your hat
will go a small ways towards recognizing the true experimenter who
choses to use alternative power. I'd wear one with pride. Heck all of
my many other toys & tools have pistons in them, so a couple of
pistons don't bother me. ('coarse if rotors were an option I'd have 'em
in most everything).
Even though the Eggenfeller Sube package seems to be complete
enough to almost remove the experimental nature of what most other
alternative engine installations have to deal with, I would still
certainly consider them worthy recipients of the hat as they are
helping to prove that there is a better option than a certified engine.
My only suggestion would be to use the term 'Alternative Power'
rather than 'Auto Power', since there are other engine designs that
have been "almost ready" to come to the market for a long, long time
now and I have (blind) faith that someday (soon I hope) one of them
will succeed, but it's early user's will be considered beta testers and
as such probably would qualify to share a few beers with the rest of
us. Besides that, I just think it sounds cooler :-)

Ernie,
I’m thinking
you’ve missed the
point of the hat.
It’s not to
create even further
division, it’s intended to unite.
If you’d
rather not be part of the
auto conversion “group” then I recommend that you simply not accept
the hat.
I’ll respect
your decision.
