Is this the current guidance?  I have never re-timed my engine because of the hassle of standing behind a prop running at almost full throttle.  I have mine set at 35 BTDC static.  I have no success trying to change it in Mode 8, but with 215 hours and (now) good solid power, I hesitate to change anything.

Good to know that timing has that much effect and the crucial manifold
pressure to set it at. I think Tracy's latest guidance is simple to set the
static timing to around 31DEG BTDC and then adjust the ignition timing with
the controller.
If you have his version that has the adjustable ignition
timing.
