I had the same experience when using tangential muffler (guts evaporated
but no change in sound).
That was one of the fastest RV-8 completes I know of Rusty, Congrats and do
what the object of this whole thing is about (enjoy flying : ). My -8 is
getting closer (new(est) goal is Sn'F 07). Debugged the new 20B w/ RX-8
crank sensor version of the EC2 which was causing engine miss above 3500
rpm. Thought it was the wiring coupling that others had mentioned but
problem was software related. First high power test eliminated my
fears that the high pitch prop (104") would be fully stalled and make
very little static/takeoff thrust. I had the plane tied to my golf cart
and it dragged it over the wheel chocks before the throttle was fully
open.
The datalogger prototype (imaginatively named the DL1) is finished and will
be installed in the -4 today. Spec has changed since original
concept. No longer a part of the FBW controller since I decided that the
70 minute log was too short for some purposes. New version stores up to
100 hours of engine data on a CF card. The card is then removed and read
on a PC and displayed via Excel spreadsheet charts. The
spreadsheets were the hardest part of the job but I'm very happy with the
results. The logger can be added to any EM2 by connecting the serial
data link wire from the EM2. Yes, a software update of the EM2 is required
but will be free when buying the datalogger. Price is expected
to be in the range of $200 - 250.

exhaust
Thanks Buly, I was happy with my tangental muffler
until the weld cracked after about 400 hours. The weld that let go was
the one that held the pipe onto the main cylinder. BTW, my innards went
away quickly, and I didn't notice any change in sound (perhaps it was gradual?
)
We will see if the pics post on the great newsgroup
site.

Hi
George, I have only few photos while I was making it. I don't
think I
can post all these on the email list?
The big pipe with the holes fits in
a slip socket at the bottom
I'll take some more finished photos one day.
I also had to make a
full heat shield from 0.016 ss.
