Rusty,
I'm installing two of the units shown in the attachment. I was told they fit a Chevy Sprint, or Geo. These units are the same as the Ultra-Mini from East Coast. They're rated at 55 amps and weigh about 5.5lbs (These two units together weigh about the same as the stock Mazda alternator but are much smaller). I plan on wiring my a/c according to the Aero-Electric Z-14 drawing (dual batteries, dual alternators). Only problem is Bob Nuckols discourages builders using internally regulated alternators on a/c. So, I plan on removing the internal regulator and using common Ford electronic voltage regulators (VR-166) in their place. I paid approx. $100 ea. (without cores) for these units from an auto-electric specialty shop in town. I'm sure you could do better at one of the local discount stores, and get a lifetime warranty to boot.
Note: Contact magazine had an article that explains how to remove the internal regulator from many of the popular alternators. I think it was issue #35 or 36.

What seems to be the best choice these days for small alternators? It would need to have an available double V belt pulley, and provide at least 30 amps. Tracy mentioned a small Ford unit, but I neglected to ask for details. Which one would that be Tracy?
Thanks,
Rusty
