Buly...

Actually, I am planning on doing just that, putting
the muffler a couple of inches below the oil pan.  But
I havent reached the point of constructing this
mysterious component not pictured.  I am going with a
heat shield of .025( maybe even .016, though I already
have enough of this in my kit and when you look at it
the wrong way it wrinkles ) aluminum with fiberfrax or
similar kiln/boiler insulation on the inside which
completely surrounds the whole exhaust.  Creating sort
of a tube within a tube concept, not an augmentor just
something to catch the radiant heat and take some of
the heat away.  With the flange being the fresh air
and it dumping out with the exhaust.

What pushed me in this direction was the need for a
belly pod for baggage.  When flying with the whole
family there is only enough CG & cabin space for an
overnight trips worth of baggage.

At this point this is what I would like to try to at
least get the engine running.  I think it will work.
Weight wise, I think this setup will be equivalent in
weight to me extending the tubes and running the
muffler under the cabin.

I think I found a local muffler shop that can swage
the  SS tube ends another 1/8" wider for my slip
joints and the financial gods seem to be smiling
favorably for ordering some aluminum sheets.  That
being said, I should have a picture of what I am up to
as I feel as if I haven't described the idea
adequately.
