that ultra minin looks like what my buddy just bought for lots of $ for his experimental. I'll plan on using two of those. Thanks for the link.
Is that about the same as a Geo Metro or some econo box like that?

I did a web search sometime ago and came up with two places. The first is relatively high priced since they cater to the flying community, both certified and experimental.
They also have those back-up alternators.

The next location found is automotive and naturally more affordable.

The UltraMini from East Coast would be great for its size, weight, and price.

As to warranties and longevity, I don't have clue.

I mentioned this a while back, and didn't get around to anything about it yet anyways. But a 2nd small alternator running off the redrive be nice for redundancy.

Subject: [FlyRotary] alternator choice?

Greetings,

Another thing I need for the cowl beautification project is a smaller alternator.  My current alternator is a stock FD 100 amp unit, with an aftermarket double pulley.  It's big, and heavy, and provides way more current than I need now that I don't have electric fans, or an electric water pump.

What seems to be the best choice these days for small alternators?  It would need to have an available double V belt pulley, and provide at least 30 amps. Tracy mentioned a small Ford unit, but I neglected to ask for details.  Which one would that be Tracy?

Thanks,
Rusty
