At my request, Bruce built the 20B for my RV-8 using a manual trans 3rd gen rear side housing so it bolts up to the RD-1B just like any 2nd gen 13B.  This caused a few engine build issues (no time to describe now). If using a stock 20B it should be easy to fabricate a bracket to compensate for the missing bolt hole (Easy for me to say since I didn't have to do it : )   Al Gietzen's integrated solution to this problem and relocation of starter is elegant, light and as usual for him, esthetically pleasing.  But what is exactly right for his installation may not be right for yours.

Look at the holes you have to work with (I'd suggest looking at the starter mount holes in the 20B engine block first) and envision the part that it would take to go between there and the engine adapter plate.  It really can't be too hard.  I'll take a look at the standard 20B down in the shop and post whatever comes to mind.

what is Tracy doing with his installation?  I look at his web site pics but can't distinguish the model type he has.  I'd ask him, but he's a bit busy right now.  I, too, bought the bed type engine mount.
    I'd love to fly out in oct and see all of this firsthand.  maybe mike mcgee could join me.  I just need 2 vfr days.(best when back to back!)

Kevin;

That is the 20B rear housing.  Tracy’s adaptor plate does not use the 12:00 hole Mark mentioned as you can see on the first attached photo.  The adaptor plate bolt that has nowhere to go is the one I now use as the bottom bolt for the starter mount.  You may be able to see on the second photo, I made a bracket from steel angle that bolts to the two starter mount holes; and then drilled for the adaptor mounting bolt (nut required).  It also is one of three bolts for my engine mount plate.

BTW; for those who may not have seen this before, it was my solution to the 6:00 starter position that didn’t work for me.

I guess I was confused by all the discussion on the ACRE list about bell housings and figured I would need one.  I have mostly completed an intake and decided to let the turbo wait until phase 2, but still am building my belly scoop and doing the easy to solve sheet metal stuff.  I need to start learning about the redrive.  at one point someone was ready to try flying the electric prop on his plane and then, nothing more was said about it.

    here's the photo again.  I need to dig up the CD Bruce sent with the engine and find out what I actually bought.

----- Original There is only one bolt on Tracy’s adaptor plate that does not go on the 20 rear housing, and that is at the starter position. No too tough to make a bracket the accept that bolt.

BUT, I don’t have that photo anymore; but I think Bruce put on a 13B rear housing – is that right, Kevin?
