Chuck, ED and All,
Rotors with the same weight code (A,B,C,D,E) also have to be from model
years that have the same basic weight........Weight codes A,BorC can be used
together.......Ditto for codes B,CorD.......Or codes C,DorE........According to
Mazda info.......
But 86-88 and 89-95 rotors (NA or Turbo) (93-95 were all turbo rotors)
of the same weight code do not weight the same and should not be used together
........Also as Rusty stated the counterweights must be for the year model of the
rotors.........

Certainly do not look the same to me. They may be the same weight but they do not appear to be the same compression by the appearance of the depression in each. I agree if they are the same weight then the difference in compression may cause it to run a bit rougher than if they were the same compression but you should be able to fly home with them with no problem.

Subject: [FlyRotary] Re: Rotor identification
I bought this pair of used rotors to build up a new motor so I can retrieve my RV-6. They look different in the compression chamber "tub" area, otherwise they look identical. They both are marked "D" for the weight code. Can anyone identify these and verify if they are OK to use ? I am thinking if the compression ratio is different, it may run rough even if they weigh the same. I remember Ed posting something about a way to measure the depth, but I cannot find it in my sea of saved emails.
