Sorry, Buly.  I should have been specific since I use Polyester (rather than REAL epoxy) resin, and  it will melt the Styrofoam as you indicated.

Epoxy will not melt styrofoam. Any ester or vinyl ester resin will. My wings are made from blue styrofoam with epoxy/glass skins. Scarry! :)

I used the solid pink foam from a lumberyard (had to glue several planks together).  I taped it with duct tape to prevent the foam from dissolving when I put on the epoxy - work fine for me.
