Greetings,
Attached are a
couple postage stamp size pics of the Howe radiator in my RV-3. Pic 1
shows the top side of the radiator, with the forward end on the left of the
photo. Pic 2 shows how it's mounted, and part of the reason for the BUC
(big ugly cowl). When I first mounted it, I wanted to leave space between
the oil pan and radiator for some airflow, and also to be able to install a fan
if needed. When it gets repackaged later, I'll likely raise it up a couple
inches.
On the left of photo 1,
from top to bottom, we have:
-water from the engine
(AN-16)
-oil from the engine
(AN-12)
-oil out to 2nd heat
exchanger (AN-12)
-spare port for air bleed,
temp sensor, etc (1/2" NPT female)
On the right side from top
to bottom:
-oil out to filter, then
engine (AN-12)
-water return port (AST
return, 1/2" NPT female)
-water return port (turbo
return, 1/2" NPT female)
-oil in from 1st heat
exchanger (AN-12)
-water out to engine
(AN-16)
-In the middle of
the tank, barely visible on the right, there's another spare port for
drain, temp sensor, etc (1/2" NPT Female)
As I mentioned before,
there's no real data on the actual oil heat exchangers, but I'm also attaching a
scan from the Howe catalog. My radiator has one of each size, since
I couldn't fit two of the largest size.
Study this, because there
will be a quiz in the next email :-)
