In 1984-5 time frame NASA Glenn Research then NASA Lewis Research center had acquired skymaster from the airforce and installed a rotary in the forward location. They were getting ready for first flight when the program was cancelled. I got to interview one of the guys who worked on the rotary program at Lewis a couple of years ago.
