Hi Tracy,
Thanks, Glad that you found the HT-2000 rod as easy to use
as I did. I was pretty skeptical as I had tried numerous types of aluminum
brazing rods and never had any success - but, bit the $64 bullet as well
and ordered it. I was really pleased. By the time I was doing my
second intake, the joints looked as good as they were {:>).
Yes, I tried both the Mapp and propane. The propane
works just fine no need to speed the extra money for the Mapp (in most
cases) - however, I have a big propane torch (15,000+ BTU) which I found
was needed if trying to braze to heavy castings. But, for other things
just about any propane torch would fine.
Good luck on your projects with the stuff.
Ed

Ed,
I had a small package on my doorstep when I got
home tonight. It included a video tape, a tube with 40 foot-and-a-half
silver rods, and a sheet of paper saying "watch the video, and give us a call
if you have any problems", or something like that. Well, I don't think
they will be getting any calls from me. I watched the 5-minute video,
and then spent about 10 minutes soldering, er, brazing two 1/16" alclad angles
together with great success. This stuff
is about as easy to use as sweating solder. I used a mapp bottle torch,
and it worked great. I'm pretty sure a standard propane torch would do
just as well. This stuff melts pretty easily.
Thanks, Ed, this will be a great help, hopefully,
sometime soon. $65 (plus shipping) well spent.
Tracy.

Wendell, I found the HTS-2000 the only aluminum
brazing rod that I was ever able to successfully use. I have brazed
thin wall aluminum tubing to heavy manifold castings with excellence
results. I attempted to use aluminum brazing rods in the past without
much success - but the HTS-2000 were different and worked well.

I have been lurking off list for the past few weeks due to being
away so much. Ran across the brazing subject and was wondering if
you were using HTS-2000 brazing rod? I want to try my hand at
brazing aluminum, so could someone give advice on this, and no I don't
want to tig weld (no equipment and don't want to take it to a welding
shop).
Thanks in advance,
Wendell
