Hi Todd,

Actually 3 miles is about as close as you would want to be IMHO. It
rumbles you gut pretty good and the noise level is pretty high for
general public.

There are no public open bleachers that I'm aware of. There are many good
sites that still give you some feel for it's power. The public beach
south of the inlet which is where I veiwed Apollo 13 is a very nice spot
because you're are over to the side of the trajectory.
