I have an opportunity? to buy a 13b out of a wrecked = 88=20 RX7.  What should I look for to be sure that the engine is = rebuildable? (it=20 is still in the car)

Hi=20 Bill,

Ed did a = good job, and I=20 couldn't add anything to his list of things to grab.  I guess his = wife is=20 letting him spend more than 5 minutes a day on the computer now = :-) =20

Any idea = how many miles=20 are on the engine? How long has it been sitting there not running?  = If the=20 answer is weeks or months, the seals are likely frozen in the = grooves, and=20 you won't be able to turn it over.  That won't stop it from being=20 rebuildable, but it might lower the price.  If it's been sitting = for a year=20 or more, I'd be very worried about rust inside, particularly if the = coolant is=20 less than optimum, or partly drained.  That could easily make it a = boat=20 anchor.

I would say it's at least worth = $200,=20 because you can get all the little things you need, even if you end up = replacing=20 some or all of the housings.  You may very well want to = swap some=20 parts anyway, to end up with turbo housings and NA = rotors.  If I=20 thought it was a good engine, I might go as high as $500, but no=20 more.

Good luck,
Rusty (OAT read 104 in my = hanger, which is=20 why I'm home working on the new intake in the air conditioned=20 garage)
