Rusty, the "oil seal" is not really so much of a seal as it is a plate that covers the center section and prevents most of the pressurized exhaust from getting into the center section.  It is held in place by exhaust pressure.  Any oil behind it will run freely into the exhaust.

I've always heard that you needed a large line, and absolutely no pressure, but I hoped that was just for the stock turbos I was reading about.  I still don't understand why they can't make some sort of seal, but I accept that they can't.  The scavenging pump will certainly work, as long as it works.  If it fails for any reason, I'll be doing some skywriting :-(
