Hi Ernest;
I'm quite impressed with the radial look of this psru. I shouldn't admit
this, but last week we got out of class a little early so I drove out to the
Murphy Aircraft factory with another guy in my course who has been
considering building a Murphy Rebel. While there I spent a lot of time
looking at the "Moose" and try as I might, I can't stop thinking about it as
my next project. I don't have the time to fly my current project, but that
hasn't stopped Rusty either :-)
The Murphy Moose is designed to use M-14P Russian Radial engine (360 hp),
which makes it look like a small Beaver. I'm thinking that a PSRU like
yours, when mounted on a Turbo 20B might just be able to find a home in this
possible future project. So if you have any additional pics showing more
detail of the "jugs" and how they were mounted, the bell housing and an
overall picture of the PSRU/engine, I'd sure like to see them. You can send
them offline if you like.
Do you know why he sold the project?
I work as a hunting guide in the fall and have long thought that the "Moose"
would be a perfect airplane for this work although current regs prohibit
commercial use of experimental aircraft. However this is a bit of a grey
area as the client is only paying for the hunt and not the transportation.
The Murphy rep confirmed that there are several being currently used in this
province for this very purpose and that so far Transport Canada has simply
turned a blind eye to it. I've mentioned it to the outfitter that I guide
for and he is very interested in buying the kit and having me build it and
fly it during the season. There would be many details to be worked out, but
I feel it's worth investigating.
