Subject: [FlyRotary] Inlet plenum
To All,
I have been thinking about the problems with
getting a bent tube fitting close enough to the engine for an over engine
installation on the inlet manifold.
My solution was to use a laser cut shaped
bend, from flat material and have a square OR rectangular tube. The top and
bottom being flat material is easily bent to fit the laser cut material. I
figured this to be the best next thing to a perfectly fitting tube - more area
as well.
Next I thought about a plenum and thought how a
box shaped plenum would do.
Then I thought if I'm having a box why not build
the square shaped tubing into the internals of the box. I ended up with a Box
with an approx size of 6"x8" with a passage measuring ( centreline) approx
16.5".
As we're looking for a tuned intake between 18"
to 21", I figure I'm not far off the mark and a small straight tube ( square
or round) running from the box containing the butterflies and injectors, would
make up the difference.
So what do you chaps think about this arrangement
- does it have some merit OR are there problems I'm not seeing.
