It is ALWAYS good advice to keep electrical components as cool as possible, even if they were designed to mount directly to the engine. The rule of thumb in the electronics industry is that failure rate doubles for every 10 degrees C increase in temperature. I have a cool air blast tube going to my coil/igniters for this very reason.
