I tried one time with a KN = foam filter and sucked that sucker through the 3" diam air intake hose = up to the throttle body (fortunately I have a wide mesh stainless steel = screen mesh over the throttle body). I was testing it one the ground = and knew when it happend, because the rpm suddenly dropped from 5300 to = 4600 rpm. Unless very dusty, I think you spend so little time in the grim ridden = air that any wear is minimal. MY $ 0.02 worth.
