I considered going without, but since I expect to operate out of allot of dirt strips and I really don't think it would be too healthy for the turbo compressor, I decided to incorporate one. I had ordered an $80 K&N that took 6 weeks to get here (I think they had to make it), then it didn't quite fit the way I wanted it too in my fiberglass airbox, so I decided to make another box, using foam. I wrapped the filter then encased it in pour-in-place foam and made a box that fit just right, but when I tried to removed the foam after glassing the box, I found that the foam had crushed the filter and didn't want to let go of what was left of it. Arrrgghh. I finally got it out but wasn't happy with its condition and wasn't really happy with the fit of the resulting airbox either. Soooo I ordered another different shaped filter. This one is only $50 and should be here in another 2 weeks. In the meantime I got the exact dimensions of it and carved a dummy plug, which I used to mould another airbox using foam. This one worked out very well, fits just where I wanted it and seals well to the cowl inlet and I expect that the filter will just drop right in.
