I have heard of that mortality myself, especially on the 93s. However, I
have also encountered FD owners who have over 120,000 miles on the
original engine and turbos. I think some ecu tables were changed in the
94 computers, etc, so maybe what we have there is "first year
introduction troubles", which I HOPE the rx8 does not have or Mazda will
suffer the consequences.

I agree about the rx-8 motor.  Mazda can't afford any more bad press on the
rotary engine. The motor sure sounds great, but it better be reliable, or
the rotary is history in the US.

As for the FD engine troubles, I'll have to pay more attention to the years
of the cars that report engine problems.  I was strictly looking at R1
models, which of course were only made in 93, so I really didn't pay much
attention to the 94 or 95 models.  Of course, the majority of all US FDs
were sold in 93 (about 65% of the total US production), so even a problem in
only that model would appear pretty widespread.

Thanks for the comments.
