Hi Marvin (and all)
Could you please reconsider your decision not to put the
list back on automatic? Previously, you stated that there were problems
with viruses, and extraneous information getting into the archives. These
seem like relatively miner issues, and since whining worked so well for the archives,
I thought I’d try it again :-)
It just seems like there has to be an anti-virus program to
handle that part of the problem. If software needs to be purchased, I’d
certainly contribute to the cost, as I’m sure would a number of list
members.
As for the extraneous data, I just don’t see that
being a huge problem. First, hard drives are cheap, and second, I’m
guessing you could edit the extra stuff out of the archives if it bothered you
that much. Would that be any more time consuming than what you currently
have to do with each email? You could also make the point that leaving
the list on manual contributes to extra data in the archive. In many
cases, someone will ask a fairly common question. If the list were in
auto, the first one or two people that received the question would answer it,
and everyone else would know it was already answered. With the list on
manual, it can be 12 to 72 hours before any answers appear, so a half dozen or
more people might reply with the same answer.
Thanks for consider this request. If there’s any
way we can help (contribution for software, hard drives, etc) let us
know.
