I flew last summer with no thermostat and had the cooling totally under control. I installed it during the winter to preclude cold temps at cruise, but now that the OAT is 80 - 100F, it runs too close to 200F on coolant and oil for my blood. I am going to remove it and see if that fixes the problem.
Will report the results.

Thermodynamic Wisdom...FWIW :-) Rusty, My logic is that a thermostat stabilizes the temps and helps warm up in winter conditions. I will use one until I prove to myself that it somehow hinders cooling and that I don't need a thermostat. I made some interesting temp readings that I will post in a few minutes.
