The IVO/Velocity accident I am aware of was attributed primarily to not following the recommended torque procedures.  IVO no longer sells to applications that have large power pulses such as those put out by a Lycoming.  That is part of the reason I am using an auto conversion.

I believe Tracey felt the reduced airfoil shape and/or reduced pitch change of the prop root contributed to his lower top end performance.  I was hoping Tracy would jump into this discussion and refresh my memory.  If the prop root profile was the cause for his lower performance, I am estimating this may not have an effect on my application since I am a pusher and thrust contribution from the root area is likely to be small.  The only adverse effect this should have is on ground cooling, but I am planning on exhaust augmenters to assist cooling.

I appreciate everyone's comments,
Joe

Subject: [FlyRotary] IVO Prop

Does anyone have any experience or opinions using an IVO Magnum Inflight Adjustable prop with a rotary?  I am considering the IVO for use with my Velocity / Renesis and would appreciate any coments.

Thanks,
Joe

Joe, don't know how the IVO prop is with the rotary engine, but it definitely is not recommended for a Velocity (or any pusher) with a Lyc. engine.  I suspect that the wing turbulence is too much for the IVO prop. A Velocity crashed and lost the whole family a while back using the IVO prop if I correctly remember.  My 2 cents.

Hang on... The velocity crash if I remember the story correctly was the result of not using the right tools and procedures. The prop was disassembled/reassembed for some reason and was not torqued properly. While I am no longer a big fan of IVO, I do believe in casting a fair glance at the product. That crash was more the result of user error than of an inferior prop. The problem with high hp lycomings apparently has to do with the power pulses the engine develops.
