Yo Jim,

I've been using Repsol racing oils (full di-ester synthetic) in the engine,
gearbox & diff. for the past 18 months.  Just off hand,  I can't remember
the specific viscosity ratings - I'm going there today,  so I'll report
back.  We now get our oil from Repsol.  The mob who own one of the race cars
(see pic) used to be the Castrol Distributor for the Southern Highlands,  as
well as having a fairly large workshop usage of oil..  So we used to use
Castrol R Synthetic in the engines, and Castrol Syntrax in the diff & box of
the race cars.  Castrol is REALLY good stuff quality wise,  but they were
intractable to deal with business wise.

One of the guys in the local SAAA (Sports Aircraft Assoc of Aust) Chapters
is an RV-6 builder,  and is also sales manager for Repsol here in NSW,  so
they switched to distributing Repsol,  and we are now using it in the race
cars  (Did a deal with Repsol that nobody can understand - lots more
friendly than Castrol!!).   Repsol,  as you may or may not know, sposors
Grand Prix motor bikes,  and is of Spanish origin. We continue to use
Castrol R (castor oil base) for premix in the fuel (a 20L drum lasts a LONG
time!!).  Had wonderful results all round.

The other oils which I know work are AmsOil,  Neo and Royal Purple.  I used
to use a lot of Neo,  but the exchange rate ended up making it too expensive
(this was when the AUD/USD was hovering arouns the 50 - 55 cent mark). A lot
of the blokes over here now use Redline, as Lynn does,  but I have no
personal experience of it.  At any rate,  nobdody seems to be having
lubrication difficulties these days.-

For street use,  I just use Mobil 1.  Have done so for 20 + years.  I've
even used it in race engines with good results.  As long as the oil is kept
clean,   there are probably any number of good synthetic oils out there on
the market (either PAO type like Mobil 1 or di-ester type) which will
perform admirably.

Cheers,

Leon
