No, the engine isn't tiny,
but the pics are. They start out as about 1 mb .jpg files, and I scaled
them down to about 33 kb each for you dialup folks. If any of you
broadband users want to see proper pics, let me
know.
Anyway, this is the current
state, with all the major items bolted on the engine. As you can see,
there's gonna be a mother of a bump on top of the cowl
:-) The left cheek came in real handy
for the turbo, which fits dandy thanks to Leon's spacers. The right
cheek may house a cool air box for the filter, but I'll try to leave it
empty if I can. I may end up needing it for an oil cooler, and
if not, perhaps an intercooler will go there some day. The
radiator will make an unsightly mess of the bottom of the cowl
:-)
FWIW, I plan
to effectively close off the air outlet on the bottom of the cowl, and
leave the rear of the cheeks open. That will give me about 64 sq in of
outlet area on the sides. I may consider opening a small exit on
the top as well, especially if it fits well with the bump I'll have to
form. I see good and bad points to having an opening on the top, analogous
to putting fuel pumps and filters in the cockpit. On one hand, a bad
leak will be very bad, but on the other hand, small leaks are much more
common, and they will be much easier to notice.
