The rule is that the pump must be mechanically driven. So, no
electrics in road racing.
Thanks for all the
comments. Pity it's not legal. If it were, all we'd have to do is
look at the race cars for our answer of whether it's reliable, and saves
hp. I suppose we will just have to keep experimenting.
I fully expect (and
almost hope) that I don't see any noticeable static rpm increase when I disable
the mechanical pump. Even if I see a slight increase, I'll figure I can
accomplish the same thing by switching to an underdrive pulley.
