As far as what grade of gas the rotary likes, the rotary is more = tolerant of octane than piston engines for several reasons (long = discussion needed, no time). Mazda reported at the time that in 1981 = the minimum octane required for full throttle operation was only 67 = octane. I think this was with a CR of 9.4 : 1. I always ran 87 octane = with my 9.7 : 1 13B and still use that on my Renesis at 10: 1 CR. Most = RX-8 drivers report better performance on 87 than the specified 91 = octane.
