[FlyRotary] Re: high oil pressure and
coolers
Yes one stock cooler would not
cool my coot so I installed two stock coolers and it works to good as
I have to install a flap on one of the coolers for cold
weather.

Well, to be honest guys, the stock oil
cooler does not work that well. Most who use it, including Tracy
and Ed, have dealt with significant problems trying to cool their
oil. Both guys had to cut their first flights short because of
high oil temps, and both eventually had to do significant tweaking of
the oil cooling system.
My setrab by comparison has cooled very well from first flight.
The highest my oil temp has ever been was 192, and that was on an
extended climbout at 32"MAP and 90 KTS - coolant finally
overheated. In cruise my oil temps run between 140 and 160.
The Setrab also fit better under the cowl, is readily available and
comes with any size AN or NPT or Metric fitting you want to use.
They cost 2-3 hundred bucks - not cheap but not super expensive.
Dave, what's the part number of the oil
cooler you are using? I'd like to look at it for possible future use.
My oil temp will still hit 210 after climbing only 2000' on a hot day,
requiring throttle back. If the ambient is below 75F or so I can climb
full power to 10,000' and oil temp won't exceed 210. If I make changes
in the future to increase power output, I may need to improve the oil
cooler.
