Just remember that the
plenum was a quick test, and certainly not the best design. As
you'll see, there are two inlet tubes, because they have a tight turn to
make under the radiator duct. Eventually, this will be reworked into a
single, larger inlet without the tight turn. That should eliminate some of
the intake pulse abuse of my plenum, which of course will have to be
replaced too.
In one picture, you can see
where the flat side of the plenum is sucked in, and allowed to pop back out
with every intake cycle. The crack you see formed in only a
few minutes of ground running, and all you could see was a blur of the plenum
expanding and contracting. The new crack is just like this, only on the
bottom side.
I'm still very happy with
the intake, though I will modify fuel rail, and make a sleeve to adapt
a pair of MSD injectors to fit in the primary locations. Matching
injectors are a good thing. My only other concern about the intake is that
it may become restrictive at higher power settings when I get the C drive
installed. Time will tell.
BTW does your RV8 buddy
fly for Fedex? If so, tell him I said “hello!”
Yep, that's the one.
He said he's going to prime my wings so he doesn't have to be blinded by the
glare from bare aluminum :-)
BTW, there's a local guy that's about ready to fly his RV-4,
with 180 HP, and CS prop. By the time he's flying, and ready to do
any sort of comparison, I'll have my C drive and new prop. He's goin' down
:-)
Cheers,
Rusty (trying to squeeze the pics into one
message)
