All the steps were pretty straightforward; however, it did not register with either the right or left side of my brain that I should check the elevator skins to be sure they were straight/flat from LE to TE. The result is that after closeout, both top and bottom elevator skins are concave...bottom skin to the tune of approx .020 (built in at the factory) but the top skin (my work) is worse at .062. Now, many years and manhours later I know better and have evolved to become my own most severe critic! I have no idea how this concave surface will effect performance but I suspect that from a cosmetic point of view it will be unsightly. And of course, all of you will take great pleasure in calling my attention to this 'defect' in workmanship... So how should I correct the problem? I suppose I could remove the elevator top skins, build up the ribs and begin again, or I could fill in the depression with micro and achieve a straight surface and suffer with the added weight penalty at the ass end of my plane. Any suggestions appreciated.
