Ted,  re heat shrink tubing on scat tube, off memory ( but don't quote me!)
polyolefin heat shrink has a higher operating temperature. It is also flame
retardent except the clear.  I've used it on scat tube in a number of places
firewall forward on an LIV without any softening, all the bends stay bent.
Obviously  though, it would not be clever to use it near high temp exhaust
components but that applies to many other materials as well.
As a matter of interest I also installed a temperature probe mounted on the
forward face of the firewall about equal in height to the top of the battery
box and have yet to see a temperature in excess of 68'C.
