There's another consideration that helped me decide in favor of
installing Lancair's winglets on my IV-P...

Fuel venting!

After watching a IV-P owner frantically failing to stop the venting of
fuel out of his wingtip-mounted fuel vent (his bird was parked on
slightly sloping ground), I remembered that the fuel vent is located
significantly higher on the winglets.

Without complicating the fuel venting system - by venting to the opposite
wingtip, for example - the winglets offer the advantage of being able to
park on a slope without pouring expensive fuel on the ground. (Not to
mention the environmental impact as well...)
