When we reduced the annual tax from 1.0 per cent stepwise to the current 0.4 per cent three years ago we planned to get the tax to zero. The tax goes to the county and it is not worth their while to collect it. It costs the county more in salary of the clerk than they obtain in taxes. The offset to sell the above package to the legislature was an increase in aviation fuel taxes from 4 cents to 9 cents per gallon which is used to improve airports. We still have Utah corporate jet aircraft based in Wyoming and Idaho to avoid Utah taxes.
