Marv, doesn't matter. The calculations you do for CG utilizes a term for
"arm" which is measured from any datum you chose (could even be 10 feet or
more in front of the tip of the spinner). Specifically, the datum is just a
reference plane to insure that each measured weight (usually three, the two
mains gear and nose gear) is taken from the same reference. Your CG will be
located by the calculation in the same place regardless of your choice of
the datum. Taking the firewall as the datum requires the numbers for the
nose gear weight be handled as negative since that weight is ahead of the
firewall as datum. No big deal but the calculations are simpler if all
"arms" extend aft, therefore, using the rear, or the tip of the spinner, is
slightly neater.
